CLASSIFICATIONS: Primary - 8 & under; Sub-Bantam - 9; Bantam - 10; Sub-Midget 11; Midget 12; Youth - 13-14; Intermediate - 15-16; Young Men/Women - 17-18.

RULES: Competition is conducted in the traditional events, including sprints, distance runs, relays, hurdles, and field events. Rules of the NGB (USATF) shall apply as modified by the AAU.

QUALIFICATION: Athletes must place first, second, third or fourth in an AAU Regional Championship.

AWARDS: AAU Junior Olympic Games medals are awarded to the top eight in each age division and plaques are given to the top three relay teams. All winners earn ''All-America'' honors and receive certificates and patches.

THE USE OF STARTING BLOCKS IS STRICTLY THE OPTION OF THE INDIVIDUAL ATHLETE.


THROWING IMPLEMENTS: A limited number of throwing implements will be provided for competition by the Norfolk Organizing Committee. However, implements belonging to individuals, if complying with required specifications of USA Track & Field may also be accepted for use by the Organizing Committee.

PERSONAL IMPLEMENTS: As personal throwing implements become accepted, they lose identity as privately owned implements for the duration of the competition and may be used by any competitor. The exception is the javelin. After being checked in for inspection, a thrower's javelin cannot be used by any other competitor without the owner's consent. No modification may be made to these implements during the competition. Implements available for the final competition shall remain impounded between the preliminary round and final round of competition. Competitors eliminated from competition may take their implements at this time.

Implements which do not comply with certification specifications shall remain impounded for the duration of the competition.
