FORMAT: Competition will be held in a single round, consisting of four component events: (1) individual rope singles Triple Crown Competition (Speed - Power - Finesse/Freestyle). (2) Individual rope pairs Triple Crown Competition (Speed - Power - Finesse/Freestyle). (3) Double Dutch Pentathlon combining five events which are specified in the AAU Jump Rope Manual. (4) Individual rope Group Routine.

RULES: The 1998 FISAC rules of competition, as modified by the AAU Jump Rope Committee.

QUALIFICATION: Jump rope requires qualifying at one of the 8 designated regional qualifiers or one of the two open qualifiers.

AWARDS: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games medals will be awarded to the top three (3) individual athletes per combined event in each age category of each division. A team plaque and ribbons for each individual team member will be awarded to the top (3) teams in the Group Routine. Winners of the component parts will receive a medal. Place winners (1-10) will receive ribbons.

             9-11, 12-14, 15-17, 18-20 (Singles, Pairs, Double Dutch)
             6-11 (Junior Group Routine - Mixed)
             12-20 (Senior Group Routine - Mixed)
             Boys and Girls Singles compete separately. Teams may be coed.

ENTRY DEADLINE: All entries must be received by Wednesday, July 15, 1998. All entry fees must be by cashier's check or money order made out to the XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games. The entry fee is $40.00. Overnight delivery is strongly advised. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE DATE OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE.

Note: This is a two-platform meet and it is the responsibility of the lifter to know all rules and regulations that apply. Any entry form that is not fully and completely filled out will be returned. This is the responsibility of the competing lifter.
AAU
MEMBERSHIP: Current AAU membership cards are required for athletes and coaches. Cards will be presented at Check- in. If an athlete or coach does not have a current membership card ($10.00), one must be purchased at that time.

ELIGIBILITY: The lifter must have totaled in an AAU Sanctioned* Powerlifting (3 Lift) Meet in either 1997 or 1998.

*Along with an AAU Sanction the meet must have the following:

1. Approved drug testing.
2. Approved AAU Powerlifting Committee referees
3. Must conform with the AAUPC rules.

RULES: This competition shall be held under AAUPC Powerlifting rules, regulations, and procedures (See AAUPC Powerlifting Handbook). To obtain a copy, please send a check or money order for $10.00 to the AAU National Headquarters, c/o Walt Disney World Resort, P.O. Box 10,000, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000. It is highly advisable that all competitors be extremely familiar with all rules that govern the competition. Modified conventional system to be used.

CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received in Virginia no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM(S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date.

On-Site Check In: Check-in for all athletes, coaches, clubs and teams participating in the 1998 AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at the Norfolk Scope Arena located at 201 East Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. There will be a $2.00 fee to park at the Scope Arena during Check-in (registration) hours. Parking is available in the garage beneath the facility and in surface lots across the street. RV and Bus parking will also be available in these lots. Upon arrival at the Scope Arena, please follow posted signs to the Check-in Area. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific directions from locations throughout the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area, please consult your Athletes', Coaches' and Parents' Handbook.

Directions to the Norfolk Scope Arena:
From the North (Hampton Area): 64 East to 264 West, take exit 10 City Hall Avenue exit, Right at the first stop light on St. Pauls Blvd. Parking Garage is three lights up on the left.
From the West (Portsmouth, Suffolk Area): Route 58 East (pickup from 85 or 95) to 64 West to 264 West, Take exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light, on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left.
From the South (Chesapeake Area): Take route 17 North to 64 West to 264 West to exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left.

SCHEDULE: Thursday, July 30

Early Weigh-in begins at 5:00 pm and ends at 6:30 pm for Friday's lifters ONLY! (Optional)
This weigh-in session will take place at the competition site (Pavilion Convention Center).

Competition Day 1 Friday, July 31

Regular Weigh-in begins at 6:30 am and ends at 8:00 am at the competition site for Friday's competitors (all women's classes and men's classes 114-165). The competition will begin at 8:30 am sharp! Athletes competing on Saturday are welcome to Weigh-in on Friday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

Competition Day 2 Saturday, August 1

Regular Weigh-in begins at 6:30 am and ends at 8:00 am at the competition site for men's classes 181- SHW. The competition will begin at 8:30 am Sharp!

Items to bring with you to Weigh-In: Current AAU Membership Card along with a copy of your birth certificate, drivers license or passport.

DRUG All lifters are required to be forty-two months (42) DRUG-FREE. Testing will be done on a random or
TESTING: select basis. Anyone refusing to submit to testing, or who fails a drug-test, is immediately suspended from the competition and forfeits any and all places, awards, and records. Anyone who has failed a drug-test has three weeks to be retested by the same procedure in which the lifter had failed previously. The AAU Powerlifting Committee will advise the athlete when contacted concerning the retest procedures.

AWARDS: Athletes placing in the top five (5) in each age group and weight class RAW and ASSISTED shall receive special gold, silver, bronze and copper (4th and 5th) AAU Junior Olympic Games medals, respectively. Also, special commemorative team plaques will be given to five (5) overall teams.

TEAMS: Teams must have at least three, but not more than ten (10) lifters and two alternates. These may be divided among male/female members of the same team, including different age groups. There may not be more than two lifters in any weight class/age group. Final team rosters must be submitted before the start of competition on July 31. All athletes participating must be current AAU Members. Teams may be mixed; RAW and ASSISTED.

HOUSING: All requests for housing will be handled by the Games Reservation Service. Simply call our toll free number at 1-888-JR AAU 98 (1-888-572-2898). A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations number. Be sure to have the following information ready:

* the sport you will be competing in
* the number of people in your party
* the number of rooms you need
* your arrival and departure dates
* your credit card number

Your accommodations will be confirmed while you are on the line.

Dormitory Housing will also be available at Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. Ask the operator for details!
