FORMAT: All competitions are single round. Aerobic dance categories include singles, doubles, and full teams. Cheerleading is a team competition for small (16 & under athletes) and large teams (17-26 athletes). In coed division, 5 or more boys constitutes large division.

RULES: The 1998 FISAA rules of competition apply for Aerobic Dance. The 1998 National High School Federation Spirit Rulebook will apply for Cheerleading.

QUALIFICATION: Aerobic Dance and Cheerleading are open events requiring no preliminary qualifications.

AWARDS: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games awards medals to top-three individuals/teams, except for team competition where a team plaque and individual ribbons are awarded.

SITE: All competition will be held at Willett Hall, 3701 Willett Dr., Portsmouth, Virginia
All coaches and officials meetings will take on the second floor of Willett Hall in the lounge.

AAU MEMBERSHIP: All athletes and coaches must be members of the AAU and be able to present their 1998 AAU membership card at time of Check-in. AAU membership cards will be available for purchase at a cost of $10.00 per youth athlete and $12.00 per coach. The cost of the membership card is in addition to the entry fee.

ENTRY FEE: Aerobic Dance: Individual Fee $26.00 per athlete (No Team Fee)

Cheerleading: Team Fee Small Team (12 athletes and under) $250.00 per team
Large Team (13-20 athletes) $375.00 per team

1 complimentary cheerleading coaches credential for small teams
2 complimentary cheerleading coaches credentials for large teams

ENTRY DEADLINE: All items must be received no later than Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at the following address: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games, 420 Bank Street, Norfolk, VA 23510. All entry fees must be in the form of either a cashier's check or money order made payable to: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games. No personal checks will be accepted. Please do not send cash. The entry fee is in addition to the AAU Membership card.

ANY ENTRY FORM(S) NOT RECEIVED BY THE ABOVE MENTIONED DEADLINE DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! NO EXCEPTIONS!! Guaranteed Overnight delivery is strongly advised and will become necessary if it is the only way to ensure that all forms are to be received by the published deadline date. It is important that the following forms are completed and returned together!

2) Cheerleading Team Summary Form*
3) Signed Athlete Waiver/Release
4) Correct Entry Fee(s)

* NOTE: One copy of the Cheerleading Team Summary Form or the Aerobic Dance Team Summary Form, must be returned to the AAU Aerobic Sports Committee at P.O. Box 2342, Falls Church, VA 22042-2342 or fax (703) 536-4914 by the deadline date.

The Local Organizing Committee has spent many hours planning and preparing for this AAU Event. In order to make it a great success, we ask for your cooperation. It is the responsibility of the coach, designated person of a team, or athlete to return all the necessary monies and completed forms by the deadline date. It is not the responsibility of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) or the AAU to make sure all are forms are fully completed and received on time. HOWEVER, THE LOC AND AAU SHALL HAVE FULL AUTHORITY TO ACCEPT OR REJECT ENTRY(S) BASED ON THE CONTENT OF THE DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED AND/OR THE DATE RECEIVED!

CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received in Norfolk no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM(S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date.

On-Site Check-In: Check-in for all athletes, coaches, clubs, and teams participating in the 1998 AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at the Norfolk Scope Arena located at 201 East Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. There will be a $2.00 fee to park at the Scope Arena during Check-in (registration) hours. Parking is available in the garage beneath the facility and in surface lots across the street. RV and Bus parking will also be available in these lots. Upon arrival at the Scope Arena, please follow posted signs to the Check-in Area. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific directions from locations throughout the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area, please consult your Athletes', Coaches' and Parents' Handbook.

CHECK-IN DIRECTIONS: From the North (Hampton Area): 64 East to 264 West, take exit 10 City Hall Avenue exit, Right at the first stop light on St. Pauls Blvd. Parking Garage is three lights up on the left.
From the West (Portsmouth, Suffolk Area): Route 58 East (pickup from 85 or 95) to 64 West to 264 West, Take exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light, on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left.
From the South (Chesapeake Area): Take route 17 North to 64 West to 264 West to exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left.

QUALIFICATION: AEROBIC DANCE is an open event. No pre-qualification is required. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limited to twelve (12) entries in each size event per age group. Any dance style may be used (Including Funk).
CHEERLEADING is an open event. No pre-qualification required. Applications accepted on a first-come first-serve basis. Limited to twelve (12) entries per size category (Coed Small Team, Coed Large Team, Girls Small Team, Girls Large Team). Only age category is high school (13-18).

COMPETITION FORMAT: All competition will be held in a single round. The Technical Committee reserves the right to eliminate or combine events in response to number and distribution of entries.

AEROBIC DANCE- Competition will be held in the dance category only (no step competition).
CHEERLEADING- Competition will be held in only one age group (13-18).

COACHES AND All coaches and officials should be registered members of the AAU. Participating officials qualify for certification and ranking. OFFICIALS: All officials should be dressed in white.

EVENTS: DIVISIONS AGE SIZE CATEGORY

AEROBIC DANCE 9-11 Singles, Doubles, Full Teams Boys and Girls Singles compete separately. 12-14 Singles, Doubles, Full Teams Teams may be coed.
15-17 Singles, Doubles, Full Teams
18-20 Singles, Doubles, Full Teams

CHEERLEADING 13-18 Small Teams (12 athletes & under) Girls or coed.
Large Teams (13 - 20 athletes)

AGE DETERMINATION: The competitor's age is determined effective the first day of January (1) of the calendar year. Whatever the age of the competitor on the first day of January is competitor's official competition age for the remainder of the year. Proof must be provided if challenged (certified birth certificate or comparable legal document).

AWARDS: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games medals will be awarded to the top three (3) individual athletes per event in each age category of each division. All participants will receive a T-shirt and participation certificate commemorating the event. Technical Committee may change awards given.

SOUND EQUIPMENT: Sound equipment will be provided. Each individual or team is responsible for providing their accompaniment to the Sound Manager on a standard audio cassette tape. The accompaniment must be the only sound on the tape and must be recorded at the very beginning of a standard audio cassette tape. Tapes should be clearly marked with the competitor's team name. The accompaniment must be recorded at the flat line of the equalizer to assure comparable volume for all teams. No volume adjustments will be made. The volume and quality of the accompaniment are the responsibility of the competitor and not the Sound Manager. Volume or quality of sound will not be judged.

HOUSING: All requests for housing will be handled by the Games Reservation Service. Simply call our toll free number at 1-888-JR AAU 98 (1-888-572-2898). A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations number. Be sure to have the following information ready:

· the sport you will be competing in
· the number of people in your party Your accommodations will be confirmed while you are on the line.
· the number of rooms you need
· your arrival and departure dates
· your credit card number

Dormitory Housing will also be available at Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. Ask the operator for details!

OPENING CEREMONIES Opening Ceremonies will be held at Norfolk State University's Track Stadium on Wednesday, August 5 at 7:30 pm. Parking on the university grounds is very limited and not convenient to the stadium. To facilitate your arrival at the event, the Organizing Committee is setting up a hassle free transportation system that will make scheduled pick-ups at convenient locations throughout the Hampton Roads Area and deliver you right to the stadium gates. At the conclusion of Opening Ceremonies, you will board the shuttles and be returned to your parking location. In order to arrive at the stadium in time for the festivities, please plan to use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at Athlete Check-in at the Norfolk Scope Arena). Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive campus parking. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up! We look forward to seeing you at this year's Opening Ceremonies!

TRANSPORTATION: Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from all competition venues.
