FORMAT: The AAU Junior Olympic Games Golf Championship consists of 36 holes
stroke play for all age groups.
RULES: Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. QUALIFICATION: No one may participate later than the summer following their graduation from high school. All participants must qualify at their AAU Association Championships. Number advancing is determined by the # of athletes in age division at the qualifier. September 1, 1998 shall be the determining date for the age of the golfer. AWARDS: Top six finishers receive medals in both the boys' and girls' competition. Top three finishers are also awarded a trophy/plaque with medals. Procedure for advancement to National Championship from the Association Championship for each age division will be determined as follows: # of Athletes in Age Group at # of Athletes that advance Association Championship to National Championship 3-15 participants 1 advancement 16-30 participants 2 advancements 31-50 participants 3 advancements 51-80 participants 4 advancements 81+ participants 5 advancements Alternates may be chosen depending on the circumstances. AGE GROUPS: September 1, 1998 shall be the determining date for the age of the competitor for all Association and National Championships. BOYS GIRLS 15-16 15-16 17-19 17-19 ENTRY FEE: Completed entry forms, together with entry fee of $100.00, must be received in the AAU Junior Olympic Games office by Wednesday, July 15, 1998. All entry fees must be in the form of Cashier's Check or Money Order. No personal checks will be accepted. Late or incomplete entry forms are not acceptable. Please make check payable to: XXXII AAU Junior Olympic Games. Overnight delivery is strongly advised. AAU MEMBERSHIP: All participants must be members of their AAU Association and must present their AAU membership card at Athlete Check-in. All qualified athletes should have purchased at membership card at the Association Championship Qualifying Tournament. OFFICIAL ENTRY: All entries must be submitted on the "Official" Golf Individual Athlete Entry Form. No faxes, phone calls, or other forms of entry will be accepted. A photo copy of the entry form is acceptable. RULES: Play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. The AAU Golf Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions or schedules herein. The decisions of the AAU Golf Committee in any matter shall be final. COMPETITION The AAU Junior Olympic Games Golf Championship will consist of 36 holes of stroke play. FORMAT: Competition will be held at Hell's Point, Virginia Beach on Tuesday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 5, 1998. PRACTICE ROUND: Practice rounds at Hell's Point Golf Course can be reserved for Monday, August 3, 1998 from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm by calling 1-888-821-3401. Be sure to identify yourself as a participant in the AAU Junior Olympic Games Golf Championship. Reservations must be made no later than Friday, July 31, 1998. The cost of greens fees and cart rental will be the responsibility of the athlete. Hell's Point allows soft spikes (non-metal) only on the course. Complimentary Driving Range balls are included in the overall event entry fee for both days. RULES MEETING: Monday, August 3 8:00 p.m. Pavilion Convention Center, Virginia Beach All participants are required to attend this meeting. Parents are welcome!! For the exact location of the Pavilion Convention Center, please refer to page 11 of the Coaches', Athletes, and Parents Handbook. CONDUCT CODE: Penalties for breach of sportsmanship code (to include but not limited to property damage, abusive language, club throwing, disrespect of volunteers or officials, use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol, or any other unbecoming conduct) may include censure, suspension, or revocation of playing privileges. AWARDS: Winner of boys' and girls' competition in each age group will receive a gold medal. Runner-up of boys' and girls' competition in each age group will receive a silver medal. Third place finisher of boys' and girls' competition in each age group will receive a bronze medal. 4th-6th place finisher in the boys' and girls' competition in each age group will receive a copper medal. CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORMS RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date. On-Site Check In: Check-in for all athletes, coaches, clubs and teams participating in the 1998 AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at the Norfolk Scope Arena located at 201 East Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. There will be a $2.00 fee to park at the Scope Arena during Check-in (registration) hours. Parking is available in the garage beneath the facility and in surface lots across the street. RV and Bus parking will also be available in these lots. Upon arrival at the Scope Arena, please follow posted signs to the Check-in Area. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific directions from locations throughout the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area, please consult your Athletes', Coaches' and Parents' Handbook. IMPORTANT NOTE: Mandatory Check-in at the Norfolk Scope Arena for all golfers will take place from 8 am - 12:00 noon on Monday, August 3. Directions to the Norfolk Scope Arena: From the North (Hampton Area): 64 East to 264 West, take exit 10 City Hall Avenue exit, Right at the first stop light on St. Pauls Blvd. Parking Garage is three lights up on the left. From the West (Portsmouth, Suffolk Area): Route 58 East (pickup from 85 or 95) to 64 West to 264 West, Take exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light, on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left. From the South (Chesapeake Area): Take route 17 North to 64 West to 264 West to exit 10, City Hall Ave, right at stop light on St. Pauls Blvd, parking garage is three stop lights up on the left. OPENING Opening Ceremonies will be held at Norfolk State University's Track Stadium on CEREMONIES: Wednesday, August 5 at 7:30 pm. Parking on the university lot. Use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at Athlete Check-in at the Norfolk Scope Arena). Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive campus parking. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up!
