FORMAT: Pool play will be used with advancement to bracket play. Each team is guaranteed five games.

RULES: AAU Hockey InLine Rulebook will be followed.

QUALIFICATION: Must qualify at an Association Qualifier, unless their association does not hold a qualifier. Then it is open to teams on a first come, first serve basis. First 32 teams (16 per age group) qualify.

AWARDS: The top three teams earn medals.

DESCRIPTION:	This is an official event of the Amateur Athletic Union.  Your participation in this prestigious event will be a part of the largest national multi-sport event conducted annually for youth in the United States today and is the showcase event of the AAU Sports Program.

AGE CLASSFICATION:	The correct age eligibility for AAU Inline Hockey is the age of
			the athlete on September 1, 1997.  The athlete  would maintain
			that age throughout the league year, which ends on August 31, 1998.

ENTRY DEADLINE:	Monday, June 1, 1998	Intent To Participate Form along with a cashier's check or money
 					order for $300.00 should be submitted to the AAU National Office.

		Wednesday, July 1 , 1998	Entry packet along with a cashier's check or money order for the
						remaining $300.00 should be sent to the local host in Virginia.
						Check payable to:  XXXII AAU JUNIOR OLYMPIC GAMES

		ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE DATE OR YOU WILL NOT BE
		ALLOWED TO COMPETE.  Overnight express is highly recommended.

		The Host Committee has spent many hours planning and preparing for this
		AAU Event.  In order to make it a great success, we are asking for
		your cooperation.  It is the responsibility of the coach, designated
		person of the team, or athlete to return all the necessary monies and
		completed forms by the deadline date.  It is not the responsibility
		of the LOC or the AAU to make sure all are completed, ONLY TO ACCEPT
		OR REJECT ENTRY(S) BASED ON DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED.

ENTRY FEE:	Total of $600.00 per/team. No personal checks will be accepted.  All
		entry fees must be in the form of either a cashier's check or money
		order.  No refunds.  (See Entry Deadline above for breakdown of when
		and where to send money).

AAU MEMBERSHIP:	All athletes and coaches must be members of their AAU Association
		and be able to present their 1998 AAU membership card at Team Check-in
		You may contact your local AAU Association to obtain a card by calling
		1-800-AAU-4USA or contact the National Office at 407-828-4741.
			
TEAM CHECK-IN:	Pre-Registration:  It is extremely important that all entries
		be received no later than the above-mentioned deadline date.
		ENTRY FORM(S)  RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!
		Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate,
		so please get all entry forms in on time.  Again, guaranteed
		overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way
		to ensure compliance with the deadline date.

On-Site Check In:  	Check-in for all athletes, coaches, clubs and teams participating
			in the 1998 AAU Junior Olympic Games will be held at the Norfolk
			Scope Arena located at 201 East Brambleton Avenue in Norfolk,
			Virginia.  There will be a $2.00 fee to park at the Scope Arena
			during Check-in (registration) hours.  Parking is available in
			the garage beneath the facility and in surface lots across the
			street. RV and Bus parking will also be available in these lots.
			Upon arrival at the Scope Arena, please follow posted signs to
			the Check-in Area. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific
			directions from locations throughout the Hampton Roads
			Metropolitan Area, please consult your Athletes', Coaches'
			and Parents' Handbook.

			All teams are expected to arrive in Hampton Roads no later
			than Sunday, July 26 at noon.  Check-in for all InLine Hockey
			Teams will take place between 1:00pm and 7:00pm at the Norfolk
			Scope Arena.  Registration times by team will be assigned by
			the AAU National Headquarters.  Confirmation with times and
			other reminders will be mailed one week after the entry deadline
			date.

 ATHLETE CHECK-IN:		64 East to 264 West, take exit 10 City
				Hall Avenue exit, Right at the first stop
				light on St. Pauls Blvd. Parking Garage is
				three lights up on the left.
			From the West (Portsmouth, Suffolk Area):  Route
				58 East (pickup from 85 or 95) to 64 West
				to 264 West, Take exit 10, City Hall Ave,
				right at stop light, on St. Pauls Blvd,
				parking garage is three stop lights up on
				the left.
			From the South (Chesapeake Area):  Take route 17 North
				to 64 West to 264 West to exit 10, City Hall Ave,
				right at stop light on St. Pauls Blvd, parking
				garage is three stop lights up on the left.

COACHES' MEETING:	A mandatory meeting for all registered coaches will be
			held on Sunday, July 26, 1998 at 7:00 pm at the Norfolk
			Scope Arena (Same site as team check-in)  Please be
			prepared to verify all membership numbers and athlete ages.

COMPETITION:	Format of Play:  A POOL PLAY SYSTEM WILL BE USED:
	Even number of teams (if possible) in each pool.  The top two teams in
	each pool will advance to a single elimination championship bracket.
	All teams will receive 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie.		

	Game Format:  A five-minute warm-up is allowed before each game.
	There will be two (2) 15-minute stop time halves with a rest period
	of two (2) minutes between the halves.  Games ending in a tie during
	pool play will end in a tie and each team will be awarded 1 point in
	their pool play standings.  Only during the semi-finals and the
	finals can a game go into a five minute sudden victory overtime
	period.  If these games remain in a tie following overtime, a shoot
	out procedure shall be used.  

	Tie Breakers: 
		First - Pool play tie-breakers will be determined by head to head competition.  
		Second - Ties will be broken by comparing  goals for and goals against.
		Third - Ties will be broken by dividing the goals for by the goals against.
	
SCHEDULE:	A tournament schedule and registration times will be mailed out to all
		coaches after the final entry deadline of Wednesday, July 1.

QUALIFICATION:	The field will consist of 32 teams (16 in each age group).  Association
		qualifiers will be held with teams gaining a reserved spot.  If your
		Association is not running a qualifier, we will except teams on a first
		come, first serve basis.	

PLAYING RULES:	Playing rules shall be the USA Hockey rules for the current year except
		where modified by the facility.  House rules may also be used, subject
		to approval by the AAU Hockey Committee.  USA Hockey InLine or RHI
		certified referees will be assigned to the event with a national
		coordinator overseeing the competition.  Minor officials will be
		provided for scorekeeping, goal judging, timekeeping, etc.

AWARDS:		AAU Junior Olympic Games Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be
		presented to all members of each team placing in the top three (3)
		in each age classification.

HOUSING:	All requests for housing will be handled by the Games Reservation
		Service.  Simply call our toll free number at 1-888-JR AAU 98
		(1-888-572-2898).  A list of hotels and areas in which they are
		located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches',  and Parents'
		Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations
		number.  Be sure to have the following information ready:

			· the sport you will be competing in
			· the number of people in your party	
			· the number of rooms you need	
			· your arrival and departure dates
			· your credit card number

		Your accommodations will be confirmed while you are on the line.

Dorms will also be available at Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University.
