WRESTLING

(FREESTYLE COMPETITION)

LOCATION: Cleveland Convention Center, 500 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio (Hall A)

DATES: Saturday, July 31, 1999 Optional Team Check-In

Monday, August 2 - Friday, August 6, 1999 Competition

AGE DIVISIONS: TEAMS will be comprised of up to 12 wrestlers (must have a minimum of 8 competitors) having birth years of 1978 (if a graduating senior and a member of the high school wrestling team), 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1984.

WEIGHT CLASSES: The weight classes will be as follows: 98,106, 115, 123, 132, 143, 154, 165, 178, 192, 220, HWT, (maximum weight is 275 lbs.) No weight allowance will be given.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries must be received by Friday, July 9, 1999. Overnight delivery is strongly advised. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE DATE OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. It is the responsibility the coach, designated team, or athlete to return all the necessary monies and completed forms by the deadline date. It is not the responsibility of the AAU Wrestling Committee or the Local Organizing Committee to make sure all is completed, ONLY TO ACCEPT OR REJECT ENTRY (S) BASED ON DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED.

ENTRY FEES: The entry fee per team is $500.00. No personal checks will be accepted. All entry fees must be in the form of either a cashier's check or money order and should be made payable to: AAU Wrestling Committee. Do not send cash.

AAU MEMBERSHIP: All athletes and team coaches must be members of their AAU Association and be able to present their AAU membership cards at the time of Team check-in.

RULES: Competition will be conducted according to the rules as outlined in the current AAU Wrestling Handbook. This applies to wrestling techniques as well as conduct, attire and decorum on the mat.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE: All athletes must be able to present a copy of their Birth Certificate, drivers license, or any other official document showing proof of birth date at time of Team check-in. (AAU is not responsible for returning original birth records).

QUALIFICATIONS: The following AAU Associations hold qualifying events for this tournament: Middle Atlantic, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio (for information contact the Wrestling Chair in those Associations by dialing the national office for the appropriate phone number at (407) 828-2892). All other Associations may enter teams without qualifying. There is not a limit to the number of teams that may represent a single Association. A team may only represent a single Association and all members comprising a team must be from the same AAU Association (or released by their Association according to the guidelines in the annual AAU Wrestling Manual).

TEAM CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM (S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date.

DIRECTIONS TO ATHLETE CHECK-IN: From the South: Take either I-77 or I-71 North into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.

ATHLETE WEIGH-IN: Sunday, August 1,12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. Cleveland Convention Center

Scales and a workout area will be available to competitors three (3) hours prior to the start of weigh-in. In addition, a workout area will be available Saturday, July 31, 1999 in Hall A from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

COACHES/OFFICIALS MEETING: All coaches and officials are required to attend a meeting to be held at the Cleveland Convention Center at 3:00 p.m. - on Sunday, August 1. Session #1 will begin at 6:00 pm.

Sheets must be filled out entirely and received by the July 9, 1999, deadline!
Each team will consist of up to 18 members (must have a minimum of 8 competitors):
12 wrestlers 1-coach
3-alternates 2-assistant coaches

WEIGHTS: The actual weight classes of each competing wrestler will be established at the time of the initial weigh-in.

BOUTS: Length of bouts will be two (2) three (3) minute periods with a 30 second rest in between.

HOUSING: All requests for housing will be handled by LCI Travel. Simply call our toll free number at 1-888-524-8785. A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservation number. Be sure to have the following information ready:

IMPORTANT: Please note that all hotels will send a confirmation with their individual cancellation policies. Each hotel may differ. If you have not received a confirmation within 30 days of making your reservation, please contact LCI Travel.

Dormitory Housing will also be available at Cleveland State University and Baldwin-Wallace College. Ask the operator for details.

CELEBRATION CEREMONY: The Celebration Ceremony will be held at Gund Arena on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m. Parking is limited and not convenient to the arena. To facilitate your arrival at the event, the Local Organizing Committee is setting up a hassle free transportation system that will make scheduled pick-ups at convenient locations throughout the area and deliver you right to the arena doors. At the conclusion of the Celebration Ceremony, you will board the shuttles and be returned to you parking location. In order to arrive at the arena in time for the festivities, please plan to use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at athlete check-in at Cleveland Convention Center.) Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive parking. Please make sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up! We look forward to seeing you at this year's Celebration Ceremony!

TRANSPORTATION: Teams will be responsible for their own transportation during their stay.
