AAU MEMBERSHIP: All athletes and coaches must be members of the AAU and be able to present their 1999 AAU membership card at the time of Check-In. AAU membership cards will be available for purchase at a cost of $10.00 per youth athlete and $12.00 per coach. The cost of the membership card is in addition to the entry fee. To become a member of the AAU, register on-line at www.aausports.org or contact your local AAU Association at 1-800-AAU-4USA.

ENTRY FEE: Aerobic Dance: Individual Fee $26.00 per athlete (No Team Fee)

Individual Fee $26.00 per athlete not competing on a Cheerleading team

Sport Dance: No Individual Fee

*1 complimentary cheerleading coaches credential for small teams

**2 complimentary cheerleading coaches credentials for large teams

ENTRY DEADLINE: All items must be received no later than Friday, July 2, 1999 at the following address: University Hospitals Health System 1999 AAU Junior Olympic Games, 1468 West 9th Street, #220, Cleveland, OH 44113. All entry fees must be in the form of either a cashier's check or money order made payable to: 1999 AAU Junior Olympic Games. No personal checks will be accepted. Please do not send cash. The entry fee is in addition to the AAU Membership card.

QUALIFICATION: This is an open event for all three divisions: Aerobic Dance, Cheerleading and Sport Dance. No pre-qualification is required. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limited to twelve (12) entries in each size event per age group. Any dance style may be used.

FORMAT: The Technical Committee reserves the right to eliminate or combine events in response to number and distribution of entries.

CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received in Cleveland no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM (S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT SPECIAL PERMISSION! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline.

CHECK-IN DIRECTIONS: From the South: Take either I-77 or I-71 North into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.

COACHES AND All coaches and officials should be registered members of the AAU. Participating officials qualify for certification
OFFICIALS: and ranking. All officials should be dressed in white.

RULES: The 1999 FISAA Sport Rules of competition shall apply for Dance. To order a copy of the Aerobics Rulebook, send $20.00 plus $3.00 postage and handling to Gloria Henson, National AAU Aerobics Chair, 3468 Mildred Drive, Falls Church, Virginia 22042-3910 or call (703) 536-9063 (You may send $2.00 for rules summary information only). The 1999 National High School Federation Spirit Rulebook shall apply for Cheerleading. Copies available at 11724 Northwest Plaza Circle, Box 20626, Kansas City, MO 64195 or (861) 464-5400.

AGE DETERMINATION: The competitor's age is determined effective the first day of January (1) of the calendar year. Whatever the age of the competitor on the first day of January is competitor's official competition age for the remainder of the year. Proof must be provided if challenged (certified birth certificate or comparable legal document).

AWARDS: AAU Junior Olympic Games medals will be awarded to the top three (3) individual athletes per event in each age category of each division. All participants will receive a T-shirt and participation certificate commemorating the event. Technical Committee may change awards given.

SOUND EQUIPMENT: Sound equipment will be provided. Each individual or team is responsible for providing their accompaniment to the Sound Manager on a standard audiocassette tape. The accompaniment must be the only sound on the tape and must be recorded at the very beginning of a standard audiocassette tape. Tapes should be clearly marked with the competitor's team name. The accompaniment must be recorded at the flat line of the equalizer to assure comparable volume for all teams. No volume adjustments will be made. The volume and quality of the accompaniment are the responsibility of the competitor and not the Sound Manager. Volume or quality of sound will not be judged.

HOUSING: All requests for housing will be handled by LCI Travel. Simply call our toll free number at 1-888-524-8785. A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations number. Be sure to have the following information ready:

CELEBRATION CEREMONY: The Celebration Ceremony will be held at the Gund Arena on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 pm. To facilitate your arrival at the event, the Local Organizing Committee is setting up a hassle free transportation system that will make scheduled pick-ups at convenient locations throughout the Cleveland area and deliver you right to the arena doors. At the conclusion of the Celebration Ceremony, you will board the shuttles and be returned to your parking location. In order to arrive at the arena in time for the festivities, please plan to use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at athlete check-in at the Cleveland Convention Center). Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive parking. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up! We look forward to seeing you at this year's Celebration Ceremony!
