It is important to have ALL information completely filled out. All items must be RECEIVED AT THE CORRECT LOCATION no later than Friday, July 16, 1999 (Postmark or date of shipment is NOT relevant). Use overnight delivery.

The Local Organizing Committee has spent many hours planning and preparing for this AAU National Championship; in order to make it a great success, we are asking for your cooperation. It is the responsibility of the coach or designated person of the team entering the National Championship to submit all the necessary monies and completed forms BEFORE JULY 16, 1999. It is not the responsibility of the Local Tournament Director or the AAU to make sure all are completed, ONLY TO ACCEPT OR REJECT A TEAM OR PLAYER BASED ON DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED.

PARTICIPATION: In the National Championship, a player must have been registered as an official member of a team that participated in the Association Championship.
ENTRY FEE: Entry fees for this AAU National Championship Tournament shall be $600.00. Entry fees will not be refunded after draw is made. Mailed to Ruby Hester. (See entry forms for address) Make cashier's checks or money orders only payable to: AAU GIRLS' BASKETBALL $600.00 ( NO PERSONAL CHECKS )
ENTRY DEADLINE: All entries MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, JULY 16, 1999. No entries received after this date will be accepted.
RULES OF PLAY: 1998-99 NCAA Women's Basketball rules. (20-minute halves, 10-minute halftime, 5-minute overtime)
GAME BALL: Game balls will be provided. Do not bring your team balls to competitions.
PLAYER ROSTER: NO CHANGES ALLOWED AFTER ENTRY DEADLINE, JULY 16, 1999. Maximum of 15 players per team. All information must be complete. AAU rosters must include a minimum of nine (9) eligible players. All players must have been present at their Association Championship.
TEAM ELIGIBILITY: 1. Two (2) teams per Association (except for the Host which may have three (3) representatives).
2. Teams that qualify for a particular age group AAU Girls' Basketball National Championship must participate in that Championship in order to be eligible to participate in the Games Championship.
3. Team composition to be determined by each Association.
4. All athletes must have participated in an Association qualifying competition.
5. Players must have high school eligibility remaining for the 1999/2000 school year.
6. Athletes may have participated in any age division of the program.
7. Participants may change teams/clubs for this competition without having to transfer.
AAU MEMBERSHIP: In addition to all players being registered with the AAU, all three (3) non-players allowed on the bench must hold a current membership in the AAU. Membership shall be purchased prior to the national championship. No non-player shall be allowed on a team bench without an AAU membership card. Teams must have two (2) coaches listed, but not more than three (3).
PLAYER/COACHES CONDUCT: A team manager/chaperone is to be listed on the entry form and this person will be held responsible for the team's actions. Any person or team whose behavior has affected the conduct of the tournament and/or the respectability of the AAU Girls' Basketball program will be brought before the tournament disciplinary committee. The so-named person will be responsible for any damages incurred to the motels or facilities used by the players.
PROTESTS: NCAA Women's Basketball rules do not recognize or allow protest. Accordingly, no protest will be heard.
UNIFORMS: The top team in the bracket or the team listed on the left side of pool play schedule shall be the home team and shall wear white or light-colored uniforms. The bottom or right-hand team shall wear dark.
1. Team shirts shall be of the same solid color front and back.
2. Team shorts shall be alike.
3. An undershirt or bra is considered to be part of the shirt and must be a color similar to the shirt.
4. Tights, lycra shorts, that extend below the game pants must be similar in color to the pants.
5. Each player shall be numbered on the front (at least 4" high) and back (at least 6" high) of the shirt with plain arabic numbers. The following numbers are legal: 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35,40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 (plus 0 or 00, but not both).
6. Sponsor names are permitted so long as placed in fashion that does not obstruct uniform numbers.
7. The term "all-star" is not permitted on team uniform.
8. It is recommended that low cut tank top game jerseys have a t-shirt worn underneath of similar color.
Teams not appropriately attired will be required to wear pinnies. The home team shall sit to the left of the scorer's table.
AWARDS: AAU Junior Olympic Games medals and championship trophies will be presented to the top four (4) teams.
TEAM CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM (S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date.
On-Site Check In: Team check-in will be between 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at Cleveland Convention Center. The exact time for your team's check-in on this day will be assigned upon receipt of entry. All players and coaches must be present at team check-in at your assigned time.
Check-in for all athletes, coaches, clubs and teams participating will be held at Cleveland Convention Center located at 500 Lakeside Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon arrival at the Convention Center, please follow posted signs to the Check-in Area. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific directions from locations throughout Greater Cleveland, please consult your Athletes', Coaches' and Parents' Handbook.
DIRECTIONS TO CHECK-IN: From the South: Take either I-77 or I-71 North into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.
From the East: Take I-90 West to downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Turn left (South) at the light. Then two lights to St. Clair Avenue and make a right. The Cleveland Convention center will be on your right after one light.
From the West: Take I-90 East into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street Exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.
COACHES' MEETING: Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at 8:00pm at Cleveland Convention Center. Specific directions will be available at Team check-in. The head coach from each team is required to attend.
PRACTICE SCHEDULING: All practices are scheduled by the Host. For practice on Tuesday or during the tournament, contact Paul Michalko at 216-363-0695. Any other practice time assignments not made prior to arrival will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis as established at the coaches' meeting. Teams must provide their own balls for practice.
INSURANCE: Each AAU member athlete is covered under the AAU's Sport Accident Insurance Program. This policy is an excess policy. If the individual has no other medical insurance coverage, the AAU coverage becomes primary. Coaches must arrange payment for any medical services at the National Championship. The AAU insurance coverage will reimburse expenses once the benefits are coordinated and approved. A claim must be filed once the team returns home from the Championship. The AAU deductible fee is $200.00.
TRANSPORTATION: Teams will be responsible for their own transportation.
BIRTH RECORDS: Each competitor must send proof of her age to Rudy Hester, 625 Anthony, Clovis, NM 88101, in one of the following acceptable manners: HOSPITAL RECORDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED!
a) A copy of her birth record from the STATE, COUNTY OR MUNICIPAL BUREAU OF VITAL STATISTICS from the place of birth.
b) A copy of the delayed registration of birth if the athlete's birth was not recorded on her day of birth, issued by the same governing bodies.
c) Consular Service form FS 240, "Report on Birth" Issued by the US Department of State;
d) Immigration and naturalization forms I-151 and I 25 and form No 43 R311 7 issued by U.S. Department of Justice.
ELIGIBILITY Any questions pertaining to the eligibility of a player or team questions shall be directed to the Tournament Commissioner who will refer matters to the AAU Girls' Basketball Eligibility Committee, Mr. Carroll Graham - 405-482-3254 (H) 405-482-3309 (fax) OR Kathy Campbell - 410-683-1351 (H). NO MEMBER OF THE LOCAL TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO RULE ON PLAYER OR TEAM ELIGIBILITY.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Caution should be exercised when traveling around the area. Traveling in-groups is highly recommended. Discuss safety precautions with your athletes.
CELEBRATION CEREMONY: Celebration Ceremony will be held at Gund Arena on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 pm. To facilitate your arrival at the event, the Local Organizing Committee is setting up a hassle free transportation system that will make scheduled pick-ups at convenient locations throughout the Cleveland area and deliver you right to the arena doors. At the conclusion of Celebration Ceremony, you will board the shuttles and be returned to your parking location. In order to arrive at the stadium in time for the festivities, please plan to use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at athlete check-in at Cleveland Convention Center). Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive parking. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up! We look forward to seeing you at this year's Celebration Ceremony!

A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations number. Be sure to have the following information ready:
· the sport you will be competing in
· the number of people in your party
· the number of rooms you need
· your arrival and departure dates
· your credit card number
IMPORTANT: Please note all hotels will send a confirmation with their individual cancellation policies. Each hotel may differ. If you have not received a confirmation within 30 days of making your reservation, please contact LCI Travel.
