The Sailing Village will be located on Lake Erie inside the Cleveland break wall.
Courses: Red, Blue, and White Fleets start and race together on one course.
Green fleet races will take place on a separate, shorter course.

SANCTION: This regatta is to be sailed in the Optimist Dinghy Class, sanctioned by the United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA) and US Sailing as one of their Junior Olympic Sailing Festivals in conjunction with the USOC JO Program, and the AAU
ENTRY FEE: $65.00 Does not include AAU membership
ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries must be received no later than Wednesday, July 14, 1999. It is important that all forms be completed and returned with the entry fee. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DEADLINE DATE OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. No Exceptions!
No personal checks can be accepted. All entry fees must be in the form of either a cashier's check or money order and should be made payable to the 1999 AAU Junior Olympic Games. Please do not send cash.
AAU MEMBERSHIP: REQUIRED WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. All athletes must be a member of the AAU and be able to present their 1999 AAU Membership Card at the time of Check-In at the Cleveland Convention Center or at the Regatta Site. This membership is required for insurance purposes. Membership Cards will be available for purchase at Athlete check-in (Cleveland Convention Center) or at the competition site for $10.00.
US SAILING MEMBERSHIP: US SAILING individual or family membership required also. Must present 1999 membership card, or purchase a membership at the regatta site. $12.00 for Junior Membership
AGE DIVISIONS: All competitors under 19 years of age, as required by USODA Rules. Girls and Boys compete together:
Optimist Red Fleet 13-15 years of age
Blue Fleet 11-12 years of age
White Fleet 10 and under
Green Fleet Beginners under 15
All Other Fleets 19 and under
AWARDS: AAU Junior Olympic Games medals will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in each fleet. In addition overall medals will be presented to the top three finishers combined. This event is also the Ohio State Optimist Championships, and awards will be presented to the top three Ohio sailors.
VENUE CHECK-IN: All participants must check-in at the Gordon Park (E. 72nd) Boat Ramps between 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4 which will immediately be followed by a mandatory competitors meeting (lunch included with meeting). It is highly recommended that participants drop their boats off at the venue prior to going to athlete check-in at the Cleveland Convention Center for convenience purposes.
CHECK-IN: Pre-Registration: It is extremely important that all entries be received in Cleveland no later than the above-mentioned deadline date. ENTRY FORM (S) RECEIVED BEYOND THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Of course, we want as many athletes as possible to participate, so please get all entry forms in on time. Again, guaranteed overnight delivery will become mandatory if it is the only way to ensure compliance with the deadline date.
On-Site Check In: Check-In for all athletes, coaches, clubs and teams participating will be held at the Cleveland Convention Center located at 500 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. For check-in hours, mapping, and specific directions from locations throughout Greater Cleveland, please consult your Athletes', Coaches' and Parents' Handbook.
DIRECTIONS TO ATHLETE CHECK-IN:
From the South: Take either I-77 or I-71 North into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.
From the East: Take I-90 West into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street exit. Turn left (South) at the light. Then two lights to St. Clair Avenue and make a right. The Cleveland Convention center will be on your right after one light.
From the West: Take I-90 East into downtown Cleveland. Exit at the East 9th Street Exit. Follow East 9th Street North to St. Clair Avenue. Turn left onto St. Clair. The Cleveland Convention Center will be on the right side after the East 6th Street traffic light.
DIRECTIONS TO VENUE:
From the West: Take I-90 to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive exit. Turn left on to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive exit. Turn left on to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Take the first left turn on to the access road. The parking lot is on the right.
CELEBRATION CEREMONY: The Celebration Ceremony will be held at Gund Arena on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 pm. To facilitate your arrival at the event, the Local Organizing Committee is setting up a hassle free transportation system that will make scheduled pick-ups at convenient locations throughout the Cleveland area and deliver you right to the arena doors. At the conclusion of the Celebration Ceremony, you will board the shuttles and be returned to your parking location. In order to arrive at the arena in time for the festivities, please plan to use the transportation system by utilizing the parking lots located close to your hotel. (A detailed map and parking directions will be provided at athlete check-in at the Cleveland Convention Center). Enjoy the spectacular show without the hassle of restrictive parking. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate section of your Event Registration Forms so that we can accurately plan to have enough shuttles at designated locations to pick you up! We look forward to seeing you at this year's Celebration Ceremony!

A list of hotels and areas in which they are located can be found in the Athletes', Coaches', and Parents' Handbook, review this information and then call the reservations number. Be sure to have the following information ready:
· the sport you will be competing in
· the number of people in your party
· the number of rooms you need
· your arrival and departure dates
· your credit card number
IMPORTANT: Please note all hotels will send a confirmation with their individual cancellation policies. Each hotel may differ. If you have not received a confirmation within 30 days of making your reservation, please contact LCI Travel.
Dormitory housing will also be available at Cleveland State University and Baldwin-Wallace College. Ask the operator for details!
